The Buffalo Sabres unveiled (or leaked) their 3rd jersey design the other day, and it has not been well-received. I won’t add to the criticism, instead I will say that I am intrigued with a jersey that is gold in the front and blue in the back; how will it look in action? Time will tell.
I can also appreciate the Sabres trying to utilize their gold to carry a jersey design, as they’ve had so many blue ones recently. The color has worked very well for the Nashville Predators’ home jersey, so why not Buffalo? Unfortunately Buffalo’s new design came up short.
So I thought I’d attempt a gold jersey design for Buffalo. I incorporated the swords into the sleeves, with the silver being the blade, and the stripes at the cuffs being a loose interpretation of the sword handles. Overall It has a collegiate/letterman jacket feel.
The current logo’s gold border doesn’t sit that well on a gold jersey (top left), so I made the logo smaller and added a blue buffer outline (bottom left). I then went a step further and discarded all the outlines for a cleaner look. I know the outlines gave the logo a sense of motion, but there’s something to be said for simplicity.
